What do I want to do when I grow up?
The question comes back up in my own life again and again.
My answer? I create a vision scrapbook, filled with my own inspirational words of wisdom, ideas, pictures, and relevant research. Do I ever solve the question? Not completely. I love this job, but I also dislike parts.
What do I do from there? I have conversations with all the different parts of myself: the inner child dressed in a fairy outfit. The tough-tomboy-Sigourney-Weaver-woman who's nice but negotiates for willpower and effort from me to make sure there's bread on the table and my credit's good. The inner nurturing mother. The career woman who wants to create a better world. The inner gremlin who criticizes. We make goals together, and we take it one day at a time. Or if we have no goals right now, we just negotiate it one day at a time. Or sometimes one of my selves just wins.
What's your defination of living a good life?
What will motivate you?
My motivation and goals are based on meaningfulness, and I find meaningfulness in connecting with living things, and being in nature. Perhaps my life's actions and career goals are based around pleasure, as I'm a highly kinestethic person.
Let's explore you. I think you will feel grateful for knowing yourself more each day. And will be glad that each time you revisit these questions, you are one step closer to a better answer.
